ORLANDO, FL (WFLA) -

The search is on for a person of interest in connection with a crash that killed a child and injured fourteen others at an Orlando-area day care center.

According to WESH, Orange County Fire Rescue responded to the scene around 3:11 p.m. after a Dodge Durango forced another car off the road, slamming into the KinderCare day care building, located at North Goldenrod Road and University Boulevard in Winter Park.

“It went through the front, completely cleared the building, completely to the back,” said Florida Highway Patrol Trooper and spokeswoman Wanda Diaz.

A total of fourteen people, including 11 children, were hurt and taken to hospitals.

Trooper Diaz says one child, a 4-year-old girl, died from injuries suffered in the crash. Two other children are reportedly in critical condition.

Fire rescue officials say 50 children were inside the day care at the time of the crash.

Emergency workers transformed a rear playground area into an emergency center for first aide. Ambulances lined up to whisk young children to area hospitals.

Witnesses described a horrible scene, with crying children thrown to the floor.

“It could've been my son,” said an upset parent. “It could've been my son and it's heartbreaking. My son's not more important than any other kid here, so it's heartbreaking. I saw them, they were bleeding, they were bruised.”

The silver Dodge Durango fled the scene, but left a piece of bumper behind. Around 5:20 p.m. law enforcement officials located the vehicle, and identified 26-year-old Robert Corchado as a person of interest.

Around 7:40 p.m, the Florida Highway Patrol says Corchado was seen at the Orlando International Airport, where he rented a car from Enterprise, and left. They say the car he rented is a Mazda CSX-1 SUV with FL tag CHR Q41.  It may be black or white in color.

Anyone with information on Corchado is urged to call 911 immediately. Police say he is considered dangerous and anyone who sees him should not approach.

"This is a very fluid situation and we need as much as help as possible," FHP spokeswoman Wanda Diaz said.

Corchado was released from prison in 2012 after serving time for trafficking cocaine, according to the Department of Corrections website.

At the day care, a small memorial is in place to remember the little girl killed in the tragic incident.

“Any type of crash where there's a fatal is very difficult,” said Trooper Diaz. “But when it's a child, it makes it that much more and our first priority was the safety of the children and getting them back to their parents.”
