Spartanburg, SC - Spartanburg Public Safety officers arrested and charged a man following a domestic disturbance at Kensington Manor Apartments.

Kenneth Eric Byrd, 21, of Spartanburg, was arrested and charged with aggravated criminal domestic violence, first-degree burglary, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and possession of a stolen pistol.

According to a report obtained from Public Safety, officers received a call to an apartment just before 6 a.m. Friday. When they arrived, they were told that a man, identified as Byrd, had entered a woman's apartment and threatened her and the man she was with. The report states that the woman attempted to call police and Byrd struck her in the back of the head with a gun and began to punch her. The woman said that Byrd continued to assault her by using a drinking glass to hit her.

After Byrd left for a moment, the woman told officers that she heard a gunshot. She then stated that Byrd came back into the apartment and as she tried to fight back, he dragged her down the hall by her hair. People told Byrd that they were going to call police and the report states that he left the scene.

After examining the victim for her injuries, officers found a shell casing and a live round in the apartment. They then learned that Byrd had a female friend who lived in the same apartment complex and they went to check on the tip. After receiving consent to search the woman's apartment, they found Byrd hiding under a comforter behind a bed.

He was transported to the Spartanburg County Detention Center where he is currently being held.
