The South Carolina Highway Patrol says a man was killed in a one car wreck in Greenville.

Troopers say it happened at 7:34 pm Saturday on US 276, also known as Poinsett Highway, about one mile north of Greenville.

Troopers say a 69 year old man from Greenville was driving his car east on US 276 when it went off the road and overturned.

The Greenville County Coroner identified the man killed as Sherman Dye.

The coroner says the car hit a metal guard rail, overturned and was partially submerged in water nearby.

The Coroner's Office says an off duty Greenville County paramedic and Greenville County Sheriff's deputies were on the scene and entered the water to get Dye out of the water.

The coroner says he died at the scene at 7:47 pm and also says he believes a medical event may have contributed to the wreck.

An autopsy is set for Monday.

The Highway Patrol and the Greenville County Coroner's Office are investigating.
