ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. -

The Anderson County Sheriff's Office tells 7 On Your Side around 2:30 Sunday morning deputies responded to a "prowler call" at a home on Greenland Road in Anderson.

According to Lt. Sheila Cole, before deputies arrived on scene the homeowner called 911 again to say they shot the suspected prowler.

Deputies arrived to find a man shot at the home.

Cole says the victim died inside the home.

Cole says the shooting victim was transported to the hospital where he later died.

The Anderson County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 28 year old Leandus Pickens from Columbia.

They say Pickens died of a gunshot wound to the chest and appears to have been shot with a handgun.

An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.

Cole says this is still an on-going death investigation.
