2 Evacuated from Early Morning Fire in Asheville

Posted: Updated:
ASHEVILLE, N.C. -  An early morning fire is under investigation.

The Asheville Fire department responded to a building that was fully involved on Merrimon Avenue around 3:30 Monday morning. The building houses commercial space on the ground floor with residential space on top.

Two people living on the upper floor were able to evacuate, with the help of firefighters. No one was injured, and the Red Cross is now assisting those families.

It took about an hour and a half to get the fire completely under control. Several streets were closed while firefighters worked, but all have since been reopened.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Anyone with information that could help should contact Arson Investigator Breena Williams at 828-575-3700.
