WALHALLA, S.C. - Drivers in Oconee County will need to stop texting or talking on the phone while driving now that leaders have passed a new ordinance.

A unanimous vote Tuesday by Oconee County Council made the distracted driving ordinance law.

Drivers will have time to get used to the law, as the sheriff will not be writing citations until Memorial Day.

According to council chair Joel Thrift, the sheriff is also working to help the county's municipalities to develop laws that will create a uniform policy throughout that county.
