SARASOTA, FL (WFLA) -

A customer at a Sarasota CVS store risked his life to tackle a man who was trying to rob the pharmacy.

A surveillance camera recorded the dramatic takedown that could have been a scene right out of a Hollywood movie.

Sarasota Police say the suspected robber walked into the CVS at 2773 Fruitville Rd. shortly after 1 p.m. on Sunday. He had a bandanna over his face and threatened the clerk at the front of the store.

He then walked to the pharmacy at the back of the store and demanded all of the Oxycodone and Hydromorphone pills in the pharmacy. The suspect had his hand in his pocket and implied that he had a gun. Pharmacy staff put the prescription drugs on the counter.

The suspect then demanded a bag from the pharmacist.

That's when customer Jaanus Jurisoo, who was standing behind the robber, decided to tackle him. Jurisoo held the man down until officers arrived.

Police say it turned out that the robbery suspect, Freddie F. Johnson, 65, of Sarasota, was not armed. He was arrested and charged with one count of armed robbery.

Johnson is also facing an armed robbery charge in connection with another Sarasota robbery at the Hedges Pharmacy on February 27, 2014.

Police commended Jurisoo for helping to catch the robber, but also discouraged people from doing the same thing.

"Although we applaud the actions of Mr. Jurisoo in bringing this suspect into custody, we do not encourage or recommend that members of the public take matters into their own hands when they observe a crime.

We recommend that individuals who observe criminal activity not put themselves into harm's way or place themselves into a position to become a victim," said Captain Patrick Robinson, Bureau of Patrol Operations, Sarasota Police Department.

Robinson says that if anyone sees a crime in progress, call 911 immediately and provide as much information as possible.
