Suspect Arrested After Attempted Robbery of Laurens Restaurant

LAURENS COUNTY, S.C. - Deputies in Laurens County say they have arrested a man who tried to rob a restaurant in Laurens Wednesday night.

Lt. Judy Stiles with the Laurens County Sheriff's Office says they were called to Sam's Country Kitchen on Torrington Road around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.

They say the man didn't get away with any money.

Deputies spotted the suspect's vehicle at his home on Forest Road in Clinton.

Stiles says they found out a 2-year-old was also inside the home along with the suspect, who wouldn't come out.

Deputies say a SORT team was called and eventually got the child and the suspect out of the home.

They say the 2-year-old was not injured.

Stiles says 26-year-old Randall Scott Gambrell, Jr. was charged with attempted armed robbery.  Bond was set at $50,000.
