SPARTANBURG, S.C - Police in Spartanburg have arrested a man after they say he ran from them, jumped in a sewage-filled creek and crawled into a drainage pipe Wednesday evening.

Jamal Rios, 19, apparently had outstanding warrants for trespassing and resisting arrest.

Authorities say they were called to Oakview Apartments on Howard Street for a group of people loitering.  When they showed up, officials say they saw Rios run from the group.  He then jumped in a creek filled with sewage and went into the drainage pipe, later coming up through a nearby manhole cover, according to a police report.

Officials say he was taken into custody after another short chase.

Rios was issued citations for trespassing, loitering drug related and breaking arrest and taken put behind bars.

7 On Your Side brought the sewage situation to the attention of Spartanburg Water, the utility in the area.

It is checking to make sure there is nothing contaminating that creek.
