Woodruff To Upgrade Sewer System, Raise Rates

Posted: Updated:
Woodruff, S.C. - The City of Woodruff will raise its sewer rates for a second time this summer, a move to help fund a multi-million dollar sewer system upgrade.

The $10 million needed for the upgrades will come from both state grant and taxpayer dollars. The city will use a $6.5 million dollar loan and $3.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to fund the project.

The upgrades will include increasing the city's wastewater treatment plant capacity from 700- to 900,000 gallons per day. The city will also replace pump stations and aging pipes and manhole covers.

The city, which approved a $6 sewer rate hike in July 2013, will approve another $6 hike this summer.
