The Boston Marathon is just days away and as thousands of people head to Boston, Upstate runners will be there too.

James Brooks, a Clemson student, can remember exactly where he was last year when he heard about the explosions at the finish line.

"I was just driving on my way to class when I heard about the bombings and tried to contact as many people as I could," Brooks explained.

He's an avid runner and knew being in Boston this year was the best way to support the city.

"To see the response that the runners both in Boston and everywhere have had to that race and what happened is absolutely incredible," he said.

Robbie Fitzwater works for Clemson's Marketing Services. He will leave this weekend to participate in his third Boston Marathon.

"Doing this is something bigger," Fitzwater explained. "It's really kind of profound."

He has a close friend who ran last year. "He was about a minute ahead of when the actual bomb went off," he remembered.  "It's a city really trying to move forward and kind of keep going forward and not letting anything keep it down."

This year, 36 thousand people will take part in the Boston Marathon, which is the second largest group in the marathon's history.
