Upstate Boy Collapses During Baseball Practice, Dies

FOUNTAIN INN, S.C. - A 10-year-old boy from Fountain Inn has died after he suddenly collapsed to the ground and became unresponsive during baseball practice Thursday.

The Greenville County Coroner's Office says Michael Patrick Blake was participating in a youth baseball team practice at Woodside Park when he collapsed.

There were several off-duty medical professionals present at the park and they immediately began treatment.

Blake was transported to the Pediatric Emergency Department at Greenville Memorial Hospital, and was pronounced dead after 9 p.m.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday and the cause of death is pending.

The incident is being investigated by the Fountain Inn Police Department and the Greenville County Coroner's Office.
