Former Dorman HS Football Coach Dale Evans Dies

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. -
Former Dorman High School head football coach and athletic director Dale Evans passed away Wednesday following a battle with cancer.

He was the head coach of the Cavaliers for seven seasons before stepping down in 1993 with a overall career record of 72-52-1 according to our coverage partners at The Herald-Journal. Evans' record at Dorman was 39-45.

Evans was also a long time assistant football coach in the college ranks. He served on staffs at USC, North Carolina, Colorado, Texas Tech and his alma mater West Virginia.

Evans was the last of the Class 4A schools in Spartanburg County to serve as a head coach and athletic director simultaneously. 

He was named West Virginia high school football coach of the year in 1964 at Sisterville according to The Herald-Journal. The paper reports Evans was 77.

Evans was also a member of the Spartanburg School District 6  board.

A public memorial service will be held Saturday at 2pm at the Dorman High School arena.
