The Whitney Fire Department says one person is dead after a house fire Saturday in Spartanburg.

Captain Cody Pucetas with the Whitney Fire Department says they got the call just after 7:30 pm Saturday on 409 Jasmine Street.

Pucetas says one man was pulled from the fire and was taken by EMS to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

The Spartanburg County Coroner's Office has identified the man as 49 year old Norman Wayne Nesbitt, Jr.

He says Whitney Fire Department along with units from Hilltop, Cherokee Springs and Drayton worked the fire.

Pucetas says no smoke detectors were working inside the home.

The Red Cross is assisting the family that was displaced.

The Whitney Fire Department, the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office and the Spartanburg County Coroner's Office are all investigating.

Pucetas says Sunday initial findings indicate Nesbitt left some things on the stove unattended and fell asleep in a back bedroom.
