PICS: Piper, Dog Who Had Pipe On Head, Cleaned Up And Adopted

OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. -

The Oconee County Sheriff's Office sent us new photos of the dog known as Piper who has been adopted.

The animal was given the nickname after it was seen for days with a piece of pipe stuck over its head in an area known to be a pet dumping ground. No one knows how the pipe was removed from the stray dog's head, but Upstate Animal Rescue says Piper was caught late Monday with the help of the sheriff’s office.

Animal control and local volunteer have been in hot pursuit of the dog for more than week.

“He was tough to catch,” says Lt. Mark Lyles. “ He was really tough to catch even being in a confined area."

The pet is under the care of a veterinarian and we're told has already been adopted by a resident familiar with the pup."I would be out here working and he would follow me around, lay down, watch me, get up and move when I would move,” said Charles Williams.

Williams is hopeful that he will soon be able to regain Piper’s trust.

"I just can't imagine what he went through."

Piper will remain in the care of veterinarians at the Oconee County Animal Shelter for a couple of days.

“He is just exhausted from running for seven-straight days,” Lyles said.

The photos of Piper on Tuesday show the animal getting a bath.
