This Memorial Day, WSPA would like to remember all of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
Memorial Day was created to remember the United States Service Members who died serving their country in wars and conflicts. It is celebrated on the last Monday of May. This year, 2014, Memorial Day falls on the 26th.
Several towns claimed to be the originator of Memorial Day, but in 1966, Congress declared Waterloo, New York to be birthplace of the holiday.
Memorial Day was originally established to honor those who died during the Civil War, but now it includes all those who have died while serving for the United States.
It is also called Decoration Day.
