Deputies in Transylvania County say an altercation between two students led to a lockdown Thursday afternoon at a school there.

Deputies say they got the call around 4 pm Thursday at Rosman Elementary on Old Rosman Highway.

Transylvania County Sheriff David Mahoney says it started with an altercation between two students.

Then one returned to the school with a BB gun.

Mahoney says the school was in lockdown for almost two hours.

He says deputies were able to follow some leads and were able to contact the suspect about an hour after the initial call.

Then they were able to locate the suspect.

Mahoney says both the victim and the suspect were juveniles.

But no word on the age of the suspect.

He says the suspect was being held Thursday night for questioning.

No injuries were reported.

Mahoney says witnesses tell deputies the trigger of the BB gun was pulled, but no projectile was found.

"It was a phenomenal effort by everyone, the school did what they were supposed to do, everyone knew what to do," Mahoney says,

Mahoney says 10 to 12 surrounding agencies responded to the school to help out, including state and federal agencies.

The sheriff says about 90 minutes after the call, students were reunited with their parents at the school.
