Police Make Arrest In Deadly Hit and Run

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. - Early Saturday morning, Hendersonville Police responded to a vehicle accident involving a pedestrian.

Around 5:20am, units responded to Haywood Road in the area of Ridgewood Blvd. Once on scene, officers located a female victim who was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Upon further investigation, the Hendersonville Police Department has announced it is looking for an early 90s model Buick with heavy front end damage.

Police say Saturday afternoon, a Henderson County deputy found a vehicle matching the description of the one involved in the accident based on the evidence at the scene and what was found inside the vehicle.

The deputy found the vehicle at a business located just off of Haywood Road.

Saturday night, Hendersonville Police announced the arrest of 69 year old Pedro Huerta Hernandez.

They say he was taken into custody around 3:30 Saturday afternoon.

Hernandez faces charges of Felony Hit and Run, Misdemeanor Death by Vehicle and Driving While License Revoked and is being held in the Henderson County jail on a secured bond.

Additional charges are pending.

Police say Hernandez appeared before a magistrate judge Saturday and will likely face a district court judge as soon as Monday.
