Anderson Co. Companies To Hire Hundreds

Posted: Updated:
ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. - Several Anderson County manufacturers plan to hire hundreds of people, a move county leaders say signals the area's growth in recent years.

Companies BorgWarner, First Quality, Plastic Omnium, Orian Rugs and U.S. Engine Valve are hiring for a variety of manufacturing jobs. This is the latest in a series of hiring announcements over the past few years.

In 2013, metal manufacturer McLaughlin Body Company spent $22 million to build a facility and bring 250 jobs over five years. In 2012, tire maker Michelin expanded it's plant, adding several hundred jobs.

Anderson County Councilman Tommy Dunn said the county attracts these companies by offering fees in lieu of higher corporate taxes, but he said part of it is the location.

"Anderson County is a great area - between Charlotte and Atlanta. But I also think it's because Anderson makes it business friendly," said Dunn. "We've got more people employed in Anderson County than ever before, and our unemployment rate is as low as it's ever been."

The companies will hold a job fair Tuesday morning at Tri-County Technical College Pendleton Campus in Anderson from 9 a.m. until noon.
