11-year-old dies after being hit by truck in Pound, Va.

POUND, VA (WJHL) -

An 11-year-old who was hit by a truck while riding his bike this morning in Pound, Va., has died.

According to a Pound, Va. Police Department news release, Pound police received a call from Wise County, Va. dispatch around 7:34 a.m., in reference to a child that was hit by a truck in the road on Business 23 in the Town of Pound, Va., in front of Pizza Plus, 8032 Main St.

The 11-year-old was reportedly flown by Virginia State Police Med Flight to Holston Valley hospital in Tennessee, where he was pronounced dead.

The traffic crash is currently under investigation by the Pound Police Department, Virginia State Police and the Wise County, Va. Sheriff’s Office.

According to the release, Pound police is also working with Wise County Public Schools’ Superintendent Dr. Jeff Perry and his staff at J.W. Adams Combined School.

Other agencies, including the Pound, Va. Rescue Squad, the Pound, Va. Fire Department and VDOT, are assisting in the investigation.
