Lyman, S.C. - Lyman Town Council voted in a special meeting Wednesday to put a referendum on the ballot.

It would change the form of government from strong mayor to council management.

The mayor was not in attendance Wednesday. He was out of town on vacation.

Councilmembers scheduled the special meeting a day before, but claim they didn't know the mayor was out of town.

"I found out today that he was out of town and that was unfortunate but we had everyone else's schedules aligned," Mayor Pro Tem Tony Wyatt said.

Councilmembers scrapped the mayor's plan to put two options on the ballot, which included the council form and a town manager form of government.

The plan has to survive a second reading before the town sets up a special election to change the form of government.
