A toddler is an unlikely hero after alerting her mother to a house fire across the street in Greenville.

The Parker Fire District responded to a fire at a home on Watson Drive.

Fire crews say flames were shooting out of the roof.

They say no one was home at the time and nobody was injured.

7 On Your Side spoke to the four year old Brandy Surett about her quick thinking.

"I saw the smoke and then there was fire," Brandy says.

Her mother, Ashley, says she had never talked to her daughter about fires before.

"I didn't think to teach her something like that, but she came and told me," Ashley Surett says.

The Parker Fire District says they plan on honoring Brandy with  a hero award.
