BRAZIL - Soccer's biggest tournament kicks off Thursday in Brazil.

A Dutch man has taken a long trip to see his country play in the World Cup.

Ben Oude Kamphuis drove all the way from San Francisco to brazil.

He began his trip in January and drove through 12 countries in his journey, including the United States, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama.

In Colombia, he had to take a boat and then continued his trip into Ecuador and Peru before finally arriving in Brazil on June 2.

He made the journey in a 1955 Chevrolet 235 pick-up truck he calls "Nellie"

"I’ve done, let me see, almost 21-thousand kilometers with that engine,” said Oude Kamphuis.  I went through the highest mountains, through the deserts, through the amazon, the rainforest; she has never let me down"

The man works with disabled children in San Francisco and said they helped him paint his truck.
