LAURENS COUNTY, S.C. -
A man from Barnwell has been convicted for the burglary of a convenience store in Clinton in 2011.

Maurice Anthony Odom, 39, was found guilty of burglary in the 2nd degree, grand larceny and criminal conspiracy according to the Eighth Circuit Solicitor.

Prosecutors say Odom and another suspect broke into the Sunny Mart BP convenience store at Highway 72 and Interstate 26 in the Clinton area on November 11, 2011. The burglars used a large rock to break a side window of the building to get inside the building.

The two took items from the store including 82 cartons of cigarettes and cash from a file cabinet in the office of the store.

Odom and the other man were arrested in Barnwell about a week later. The judge sentenced Odom to 15 years in prison, the maximum sentence for 2nd degree burglary.

He is also a suspect in similar crimes in other parts of the state including Newberry County. Odom is eligible for a life sentence if found guilty of another burglary because of the conviction in Laurens County.
