Albino alligators move from Florida

Posted: Updated:
SOUTH DAKOTA - A couple of rare alligators taking a summer vacation far from their natural habitat.

These albino gators from Florida are now on loan to a South Dakota zoo.

The albino gators prefer a little more shade then their green counterparts.

"Being albino, they lack certain skin pigments. So that makes them more sensitive to sunburn, so we have them in the enclosure here to keep them a little bit more protected," said Lisa Smith of Great Plains Zoo.

Albino alligators are extremely rare, with only about 30 in the world.

While they may look menacing, with their bright skin and red eyes, these little guys are still considered small.

At five and six feet long, they're not considered full grown. These guys can get between 10 and 15 feet long as adults.
