CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Police in North Carolina are investigating the disappearance of a missing elementary school teacher as a possible homicide.

Bianca Tanner, 31, disappeared on Sunday. She had reportedly just moved to the Charlotte area to live with her boyfriend.

Police say they decided to make the call early to pursue the possibility that she may not be alive.

"Rather than sitting back and waiting for that one clue to tell us this is a homicide, I think it's in our best interest as well as the best interest of our victim and the family that we elevate it now. And I've asked them to reach out to other resources, both locally and federally to assist us with a variety of different strategies that we're looking to employ. I just don't want to sit on this one because I just don't feel - as well as talking with the investigators involved, we just don't feel that this is a simple missing persons case."

Police are not saying whether the boyfriend is considered a person of interest but they say there are "inconsistencies" in statements they have received from people associated with tanner.

There's a $5,000 reward being offered for information leading to her whereabouts.
