Police investigate armed robbery at Raleigh funeral home

RALEIGH, N.C. -

Raleigh Police are investigating an overnight armed robbery at the Lightner Funeral Home in Raleigh.

Police said the robbery took place just after midnight early Friday in an area of the funeral home that’s used as a residence for the victim, 66-year-old Bruce Lightner.

Lightner is the son of Clarence Lightner, the first African-American mayor of Raleigh, and a longtime activist.

He told police that two suspects, one who was armed with a handgun, entered the bedroom and took cash and a cellphone before fleeing.

Lightner was not physical hurt during the robbery.

The first suspect is described as having a dark complexion, standing about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a burgundy, zip-up hoodie and a baseball.

The second suspect, who was armed with a handgun, is described as standing about 6 feet tall and weighing about 250 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and had a red-and-black bandana over his face.
