Sheriff Deputy Involved in Wreck Responding to House Fire

LAURENS COUNTY, S.C. - A deputy with the Laurens County Sheriff's Office was responding the scene of a house fire when they hit a rail road arm guard.

Bill Rhyne of the South Carolina Highway Patrol says that Deputy Brent Rushing was driving West on Highway 14 when he tried to take a left onto Highway 101 and lost control resulting on his cruiser hitting railroad crossing arms. Deputy Rushing is 43 years old and resides in Simpsonville.

He was wearing a seat belt. 

The deputy was talking to the EMS and was taken to Greenville Memorial to be checked out.
