GREENVILLE, S.C. -

Two Greenville Police officers have been placed on administrative duty, after a hostage situation led to an officer-involved shooting Saturday.

Officer Jonathan Bragg said police were responding to a robbery of a person on a bicycle around 12:30 p.m. on Laurens Road. Bystanders told police they saw the suspect knock a guy off his bicycle and attempt to rob him. Some of the witnesses intervened and chased the suspect across the road toward Pep Boys.

Police say the suspect ran into the Pep Boys and took one of the employees hostage by holding a knife to his throat. That led to a confrontation with police. Eventually, the employee was able to get free and one of the officers shot the suspect.

Officials say the officer felt threatened for his life and the lives of the employees, and the administrative duty is simply protocol while SLED investigates the incident.

Police say neither victim, the Pep Boys employee or the cyclist, was seriously injured.

The suspect was taken to the hospital, and detectives have not been able to talk to him yet. However, they hope to charge him soon. Once they do, the suspect's name will be released.
