Go Fish: Must-see massive catches

Posted: Updated:
The International Game Fish Association is responsible for declaring record catches around the world. Rules have been established for both freshwater and saltwater catches, as well as ethical guidelines fishermen must follow for it to be determined a world record catch.

Despite how difficult it is to catch a fish, captures in which the fish does not have a chance to fight, do not count. Thus, the catch must only be made with a rod, reel, line and hook.

Other rules include that no other person besides the angler can assist in the catch; they can be the only person touching the tackle, and cannot rest the rod on the boat. Other things that will disqualify the catch include: shooting or harpooning the fish in any way, using a boat to get into shallow water to help the catch, if the rod breaks, if more than one line is used, or mutilating the fish, to name a few.

Once caught, fish must be measured using IGFA official devices. The intent of the catch must be to release the fish alive, and catching the fish cannot inhibit the release.
