SPARTANBURG, S.C -

“Warrior 101” in Spartanburg aims to teach discipline, self-confidence, and respect to middle and high school students at the end of July.

The boot camp is intended for middle and high school students who have been victims of bullying, according to our coverage partner the Spartanburg Herald-Journal.

Warrior 101 will also focus on children with disciplinary issues and behavioral problems.

Captain Allen Freeman says that he got the idea for the boot camp from his three children, one of which was bullied. Captain Freeman also says that he wanted his kids to understand how to channel their frustrations from the bullying in a healthy way.

The Sheriff’s Office says that the program is intended to build confidence, condition the participants, and teach them survival skills.

“We're going to do a lot of the discipline. … We're going to run it like a military boot camp,” he said.

The camp is divided up into four eight-hour training sessions and an orientation, which starts on July 23rd. The orientation will give the participants a chance to meet jail inmates who want to share their stories. July 25th will be the first actual day of boot camp.

Captain Freeman plans on following up with all of the participants throughout high school, to see if the boot camp’s results are.
