Pendleton, S.C. - A fire that destroyed an antique business in downtown Pendleton earlier this week has been ruled an accident.

Anderson County's fire investigator made the determination for the fire that destroyed Blue Ridge Antiques and Refinishing on East Main Street.

The flames started early Tuesday morning and burned for several hours because of the amount of fuel inside the building that would be expected in such a business.

Brick walls - more than a century old - kept the fire contained to the only Blue Ridge Antiques and Refinishing, but prevented firefighters from entering the building for some time as they fought the flames and smoke.

The roof collapsed and left the business as a total loss.

Anderson County fire investigator Stan Ashley has also determined the building isn't to be entered because it's unsafe.
