VIDEO: Intense gator battle at Odessa golf course

Posted: Updated:
ODESSA, FL (WFLA) -

An amazing video of two big gators locked in an intense fight might have you wondering how something so dangerous could happen at a golf course.

A golfer shot the video using a cell phone in 2011. The video has resurfaced on social media. It shows the gators battling it out near a pond. According to the YouTube post by BdbradberryFL, it happened at the Eagles Golf Club in Odessa.

"Footage of alligators in the wild fighting for territory and mating rights," said the YouTube post.

The 4-minute video includes audio of the golfers as they watch the gators fighting.

"What the heck?" said one golfer as they see the gators fighting in the distance. The golfers move dangerously close to the alligators to get a better shot with the cell phone. One gator has its large mouth locked into the neck of the other gator and flips the gator over.

"We can go ahead and tee off," said one golfer while the video was recording. "Are you serious?" replied another golfer.

The men continue to watch the gators. At one point, one golfer says, "I want a picture of me teeing off right there."

The battle apparently knocked one of the gator's teeth out of its mouth and one of the golfers found it. In one shot, the man held the tooth up so it appeared in the video with the gators fighting behind the tooth.

The gators eventually stopped fighting and went back into the pond.

Safety experts warn that you should never get close to alligators. It is against the law in Florida to feed or entice an alligator or crocodile in the wild.
