CHARLOTTE COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

Animal Control officers are investigating a post that sparked outrage on Facebook - it was a picture of a man holding a cat by its scruff and pointing a gun at it, NBC-2 reported.

The user Thomas Mcguinness of Port Charlotte posted the image adding in the post "don't know why everybody so mad about a cat we only shot it twice." according to the NBC-2 story.

Executive Director of the Animal Welfare League in Port Charlotte Sharon Thomas was almost brought to tears when she saw the post and Charlotte County Animal Control Division Manager Lt. Brian Jones told NBC-2 that the post angered them beyond belief.

"That's a confession, where I come from if we found a dead cat," Jones said about Mcguinness's words.

Now the investigators are trying to establish if anybody including Mcguinness, was hurt as they found more pictures of the man pointing a gun at a dog and himself. They are treating this as a possible case of animal cruelty, NBC-2 wrote.

Both the officials and NBC-2 reporters tried to reach Mcguinness but couldn't find him. They continue to investigate.

If you know this man, please contact Charlotte County Animal Control at (941)833-5690.
