Victim Shot, Killed Over Money In Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. -

Clemson City Police have arrested a man after they say he shot someone over a dispute of money Wednesday evening. 

In a press release by the city police, officers received a call around 5:40pm in regards to a shooting on Summey St at a home. On scene, officers located a gunshot victim lying outside of the residence. 

Police were then able to determine the suspect was still inside the home. They ordered the suspect out of house while EMS treated the victim. 

According to the release, an argument started as a result of money being owed. When the victim had left the residence, the suspect came outside and shot the victim multiple times with a handgun. 

The victim has been identified as 53-year-old James Cherry of Clemson. The Pickens County Coroner's Office says Cherry was transported to Oconee Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. An Autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

Officers arrested a Mark Burnside, age 55, from Clemson.  He is charged with murder.

Burnside is currently being held at Clemson City Jail.
