Local Teen Wins Food Network Competition

Posted: Updated:

Tommi Rae Fowler has won the Food Network competition, Chopped: Teen Challenge.

Tommi is from Anderson and a junior at Wren High School.

Tommi told WSPA that when it happened, she didn't believe it. "I couldn't believe that I won against all those great chefs! I am so proud to have accomplished something of this stature at 16."

She plans on using her $25,000 winnings to see family, get a car, and save for college.

Her $40,000 scholarship is for the Art Institute in Charleston.

Tommi was met by cheers and hugs at Wren High School.

She says she grew up around cooking with her mom and grandmother, but it was when she got to the school district's Career Center she realized she wanted to be a chef.

Tommi says the show was a great experience.

"It's been amazing," Tommi says. "I am so glad that I got out of my comfort zone and did this because it has paid off immensely."

Tommi says she wants to finish high school and go to the Arts Institute.

She says her dream is to write a cookbook focused on teens to show them they can fox something easy and good to eat instead of popping something in the microwave.
