GREENWOOD, S.C. -

Students at Springfield Elementary returned to class on Friday after power issues forced the school to be closed Wednesday and Thursday.

Johnathan Graves with Greenwood School District 50 says everything is back up and running at the school.

Graves says students returned to the school Friday at 1 pm and followed a normal dismissal schedule.

Graves says Friday morning students and staff arrived at Springfield, then teachers and students were transported by buses to Lakeview Elementary, Mathews Elementary, or Emerald High School.

Graves says students were taught by their teachers at each location.

Dozens of drivers have filed complaints with the South Carolina Department of Transportation over loose gravel along a stretch of I-85. Officials said the complaints, which topped out at between 6 and 8 per day last week, stem from gravel that's damaged vehicles between Highway 14 and 129, where crews are working on a two-year-long resurfacing project.
