Alert Neighbor's Actions Lead To Arrest In Belton

BELTON, S.C. -

Anderson County deputies say an alert neighbor helped them nab a Belton man Wednesday.

Deputies say they arrested 28 year old Jeffery Jermaine Crosby of Belton and charged him with first degree burglary.

Police reports around 4 pm on Wednesday, August 20th, a suspicious person was seen trying to get into a residence on Meadow Acres in Belton.

A neighbor called 911, described the suspect, and stated he was seen pulling on the front and side doors, before proceeding to the back of the home.

Deputies arrived within minutes and found several pry marks near the back door handle and they door was unlocked.

Deputies searched the residence but no one was found inside.

Shortly thereafter, dispatchers advised officers another responding unit had located an individual on Amity Road which met the suspect’s description.

As deputies approached him, they say the suspect threw an object onto the side of the road.

The item was recovered and found to be a screwdriver.

The homeowner was contacted and, after a quick inventory, notified officers that the only item that appeared to be missing was a brown shoulder bag with a green and red shoulder strap.

Deputies recovered the bag on the side of the road near the suspect, who was identified as Jeffery Crosby.

Deputies say Crosby was taken into custody and transported to the Anderson County Detention Center where he is currently being held.

Bond has been set at $50,000.

According to the arrest warrant, deputies say Crosby has a prior record of two or more convictions for burglary.
