At least three people including a child are critically injured after Sunday morning's magnitude 6.0 quake that hit in the American Canyon area and caused significant damage in Napa.

Officials say the child was hurt when a chimney collapsed immediately following the strong 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck the Bay Area at 3:20 Sunday morning.

“City Fire personnel are responding to structure fires,” City of Napa spokesman Barry Martin says in a written statement. “A number of unreinforced masonry buildings in downtown Napa have suffered severe damage. Many store windows are broken. There are water main breaks in a variety of locations. The City has opened an Emergency Operations Center and will issue further information shortly after a 6:30 briefing.”

At least 90 people are receiving treatment at Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa, mostly from lacerations and bruises. A hospital spokeswoman tells KRON 4's Marty Gonzalez at least one patient has a fractured hip.

Governor Jerry Brown is declaring a State of Emergency statewide because of the Magnitude 6.1 quake that hit Napa, Solano, and Sonoma Counties.

The Governor says the declaration means that “all agencies of the state government utilize and employ state personnel, equipment, and facilities for the performance of any and all activities consistent with the direction of the Governor's Office of Emergency Services and the State Emergency Plan. Also, all citizens [need to heed] the advice of emergency officials with regard to this emergency in order to protect their safety."

PG&E says 30,000 customers were without power by about 10:00 a.m. on Sunday.

The jolt was centered about 4 miles northwest of American Canyon but it was felt widely across the Bay Area. Social media reactions indicate that the quake was felt as far as Sacramento and in the Silicon Valley.
