Dan Vasko joined the 7NEWS team in February of 2020 as a sports reporter and digital content producer.
Originally from Crystal Lake, Illinois (northwestern suburb of Chicago), Dan graduated from Illinois State University with a Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism.
He began his television career in 2014, starting out as a photographer with WTVO in Rockford, IL before making the switch to morning news reporter.
After two and a half years, he transitioned to covering sports as the weekend sports anchor at WHBF in the Quad Cities (Illinois/Iowa border). In his three years there, he contributed to award-winning coverage of the PGA Tour event ‘The John Deere Classic,’ and helped grow the station’s ‘Hawkeye Headquarters’ brand focused on bringing exclusive stories on Iowa Hawkeye athletics to the local fans.
Over the years, Dan has covered major sporting events including the NFL Draft, NHL Playoffs, March Madness, and much more.
He is thrilled to have the opportunity to engage with a great fan base here in the Carolinas, and you can bet he looks forward to much milder winters!
In his spare time, Dan enjoys hiking, true crime documentaries, playing guitar and, of course, watching sports.
You can reach out to him with any story ideas at dvasko@wspa.com, on Facebook and on Twitter.
