Scottie Kay

Scottie Kay joined WSPA in September of 2019 as a reporter and multimedia journalist, but she’s no stranger to our station or the area we cover.

Scottie Kay is from Gaffney and graduated from Wofford College in Spartanburg (Go, Terriers!). Her love for journalism started back in sixth grade when she was a part of Gaffney Middle School’s news team.

Behind news, volleyball is Scottie Kay’s biggest passion. She played in middle school, high school, and spent several years playing club ball with Club South and Upward Stars in Spartanburg. She then continued playing at Converse College before transferring to Wofford College, where she began to focus on her pursuit of a career in journalism.

Scottie Kay was a sports reporter for Wofford’s digital broadcast, “TerrierVision,” and ESPN3, and she co-founded the school’s first-ever student-run multimedia journalism organization called the “Wofford Wrap.”

After meeting WSPA’s long-time anchor Tom Crabtree during her junior year of college, Scottie Kay scored an internship with us. After her internship, she was hired as a digital producer for 7 News.

Scottie Kay then spent about two years as a reporter in Huntsville, Alabama where she covered stories like the famous “Attack Squirrel,” Governor Kay Ivey being the first to sign an abortion ban, and got an exclusive interview with a grandma who held a suspect at gunpoint until help arrived. She also covered several severe weather situations, including tornados and extreme flooding. One of Scottie Kay’s stories, involving a Huntsville boy known as “Space Kid,” was shared by Vice President Mike Pence.

In her free time, Scottie Kay enjoys reading, writing, and spending time outdoors—whether she’s hiking, on the water, or playing volleyball. She is a lover of Jesus, puns, and country music.

Scottie Kay grew up watching 7 News and says she is thrilled to be back home. She is most excited to cover stories that impact her family and friends.
