GREENVILLE, S.C. (Furman Athletics) – Furman running back Dominic Roberto has been named FedEx Ground FCS National Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Paladins’ 47-40 Southern Conference victory over Western Carolina on Saturday, it was announced today by Stats Perform.

Roberto, a redshirt junior, rushed a career high 25 times for another career standard 252 yards and scored three touchdowns for the Paladins, who improved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in SoCon play with the victory.

In averaging 10.0 yards per carry, the Fayetteville, N.C., product staked Furman to an early 7-0 lead with a season long 62-yard touchdown run and hauled in a 20-yard touchdown catch to give the Paladins a 14-7 first quarter advantage.  He followed it up with a one-yard plunge on the Paladins’ first possession of the second period to help send Furman into halftime ahead, 27-20.

Roberto’s 252 rushing yards represented the third highest single game tally in Furman history and backed up his 133-yard, two-touchdown performance in the Paladins’ 21-10 win over The Citadel in Charleston on Oct. 1.

In his last two games versus Western Carolina, Roberto has rushed 49 times for 448 yards (9.14 ypc) and scored seven touchdowns.

Over his last 10 games, spanning the final three contests of 2021 and seven games this year, the preseason All-SoCon selection has run for 1,197 yards and scored 13 touchdowns, averaging 6.96 ypc.

Furman plays at VMI this Saturday in a 1:30 p.m. contest.
