1 arrested in Brevard shooting, victim in hospital

BREVARD, N.C. (WSPA) — One person is in the hospital and another behind bars after a shooting at a home in Brevard.

The shooting was reported just after midnight Thursday at a residence in the 200 block of Oakdale Street. 

Brevard Police Department said in a news release the shooting was an isolated incident.

Mark Anthony Rushton, 35, of Brevard, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, discharging a firearm inside city limits, possession of marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia, police say.

Rushton is in the Transylvania County jail under $100,000 bond.

Police say the victim is being treated at Mission Hospital.

The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.

Police say detectives are interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence as of Thursday morning.
