1 dead, 2 hurt in crash on Augusta Rd in Greenville Co., road blocked to traffic

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – South Carolina Highway Patrol officials said one person died and two others were injured in a crash on Augusta Road Friday afternoon.

According to Cpl. Bill Rhyne, troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash that happened just before 2 p.m. on Augusta Road at Highway 25.

Rhyne said earlier that both drivers were seriously injured. Three people, including a juvenile passenger, were taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

Greenville County Coroner’s Office said one of the adults injured died following the crash.

The coroner’s office identified the victim as Randall Justin Helms, 32, of Fountain Inn.

Helms died from blunt force trauma at about 2:45 p.m.

The coroner said Helms was entrapped in his vehicle following the crash for a period of time.

Helms was treated at the scene and taken to Greenville Memorial Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Rhyne said that portion of Augusta Road was blocked to traffic following the crash on Friday.

According to highway patrol, a juvenile was also taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment.
