Man shot, killed by homeowner during alleged home invasion in Anderson Co.

ANDERSON CO., SC (WSPA) – The Anderson County Coroner’s Office said an investigation is underway into a shooting that led to a man’s death Sunday night during an alleged home invasion.

According to the coroner’s office news release, investigators were called to the 400 block of Boiter Road in Williamston at around 10:10 p.m. Sunday following a 911 call reporting that someone had been shot after reportedly breaking into a home.

Anderson County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Medshore Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene and the shooting victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Anderson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 39-year-old Efren Nectali Ramirez of Honduras.

According to the coroner’s office news release, the man reportedly tried to go into the home on Boiter Road and was shot by the homeowner after a brief struggle.

The coroner’s office said the man died as a result of a gunshot wound to the chest.

Anderson County Sheriff’s Office investigators said the shooting appears to be self defense. However, the shooting remains under investigation as of Monday morning.
