1 dead after truck crashes on Saluda Dam Road in Pickens Co.

PICKENS COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – South Carolina Highway Patrol officials said one person has died after a crash on Saluda Dam Road in Pickens County Thursday afternoon.

According to highway patrol’s Lance Cpl. Justin Sutherland, the single-vehicle crash happened on Saluda Dam Road just two miles west of Greenville around 1:50 p.m.

Sutherland said a 1994 truck was traveling west on Saluda Dam Road when it ran off the right side of the road, hit a guardrail, went down an embankment and then overturned.

According to Sutherland, the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the truck.

The driver died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

The Pickens County Coroner’s Officer identified the driver as Shaun William Gilstrap, 28, of Travelers Rest.

Coroner Kandy Kelley said Gilstrap died from blunt force trauma.
