1 injured in early morning apartment fire in Waynesville

WAYNESVILLE, NC (WSPA) – Waynesville Fire Department officials said one person was injured in an early morning apartment building fire on Suyeta Park Drive on Wednesday.

According to Waynesville Fire Chief Joey Webb, Sr., they received a call about a multi-residential fire at Suyeta Apartments around 4:15 a.m.

Webb said the fire was contained to a couple of units and said it did get into the attic area.

According to Webb, a man who lived in the apartment where the fire originated had burns to his feet, but his injuries were said to be minor.

Webb said everyone was evacuated from the building at the time of the fire and said at this time around 15 people have been displaced. Those residents are currently being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Damage to the roof and parts of attic were reported, as well as fire and water damage. 

The cause of the fire is unknown and is currently under investigation.
