SENECA, S.C. (WSPA) - A 106-year-old evacuee from Beaufort County is staying in the Upstate as deadly Tropical Storm Florence rolls through the area.
On the front porch of Keowee Place Senior Living Center, in Seneca, Eutelle Nix sipped on lemonade and took-in the light breeze from Tropical Storm Florence.
"When did you get here?" Asked 7News Reporter Stefany Bornman.
"We got here three days ago," Nix said.
Nix evacuated from her assisted living facility in Port Royal, South Carolina. That's in Beaufort County, one of the places Governor Henry McMaster ordered mandatory evacuations, ahead of Florence making landfall, earlier this week.
Nix and 26 others have found refuge from the deadly storm in the Upstate. But it's her age that sets her apart.
"How old are you?" Asked 7News Reporter Stefany Bornman.
"I'm 106," she said.
The Georgia-native was born just a few days after the Titanic Sank and she says when you've been around for more than a century hurricanes and tropical storms don't really intimidate you anymore.
"Were you worried about the hurricane?" Asked 7News Reporter Stefany Bornman.
"Well not really," Nix told 7News.
Nix says this is the second time severe weather has forced her out of her home. She fled from Hurricane Matthew's path of destruction in 2016.
"We had to stay about 2 to 3 days in Georgia at my farm and we stayed there until they got electricity back."
Which is why she knew to pack lightly. "[Just] a couple of change of clothes and the essentials."
Nix says she's ready to go back home and enjoy cookies on the porch at her facility on the coast. But not before she shared the secret to living 106 years.
"I'm going to have to start eating oatmeal for breakfast," joked 7News Reporter Stefany Bornman.
"Yea, well if you want to live long you try it," Nix laughed.
Beaufort County evacuation orders were lifted earlier this week. Nix and her friends from the coast hope to return sometime next week.
