19-year-old pulled from Lake Keowee dies in hospital, coroner says

OCONEE COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – Oconee County Coroner’s Office officials said a man, who was hospitalized on Monday after he was pulled from an area lake, has died.

We reported on Monday that emergency crews were dispatched to Fall Creek Landing on Lake Keowee in regards to a report of a drowning at around 2:45 p.m.

Oconee County Fire Chief Charlie King said Salem Fire and Rescue, EMS, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office and the Oconee County Dive Team responded to the area.

CPR was performed and the man was then taken to Oconee Memorial Hospital for treatment. 

Coroner Karl Addis confirmed that the man — identified as Angelo D. Hall, 19, of Greenville — died Monday night in in the intensive care unit at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Addis said Hall was swimming with friends on Lake Keowee near Salem at Fall Creek Landing when he disappeared under the water.

Hall’s friends were able to pull him out and started CPR. The first 911 call was received at 2:45 p.m.

Once emergency crews arrived on-scene, Hall was provided life support while he was taken to Oconee Memorial Hospital’s emergency room, before being transferred to Greenville.

Addis said Hall died at around 8:45 p.m. due to complications associated with freshwater drowning.

According to Addis, no autopsy will be conducted and his manner of death has been deemed an accident.
