2 accused robbery suspects appear in Spartanburg bond court


Two men accused of attempted murder and armed robbery are behind bars.

Spartanburg police say the men worked together on at least two robberies.

In one of them an employee was shot. 

Side Traxx Convenience Store on Crescent Avenue and the Corner Store on Hayne Street were robbed. 

Christopher Benson, 21, and Perry Ellison, 42, sat before a bond court Monday afternoon.

They face multiple charges including attempted murder and armed robbery. 

According to police,the clerk who was working on Saturday night at Side Traxx was shot in the leg and beaten with the gun.

According to police, Benson and Ellison went to the Corner Store on Sunday morning where one of them fought the cashier and fired four to five shots.

One of the suspects, Christopher Benson, is also facing charges from another armed robbery in Spartanburg County. 

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office says that robbery happened at the Lil Cricket on New Cut Road on March 6.

According to warrants, Benson hit someone in the head with a gun during that robbery.

Benson is charged with first degree Assault and Battery, Armed Robbery, and Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime, according to the sheriff’s office.

Both suspects have an initial appearance in court scheduled for the morning of May 23rd.
